So, for awhile now I've been working on the idea of a selkie costume, complete with a "skin," preferably worn to cover my torso, upper legs, and head. While a somewhat furry, velvety material might work, finding it and painting/staining it in those phocine gray/white shades might be more trouble than its worth. So I'm currently considering taking a gray hoodie, maybe cutting open the arms and shaping them like flippers, painting a seal's whiskers, nose, eyes and other facial features on the hood, maybe getting a strip of fur-like fabric to use as a belt, etc. It would be really cool if I could kneel down, pull the hood tight, and have the costume drape over me in such a way that it made me actually resemble a seal. Any advice on materials, patterns, how to cut hoodies, etc?
